Important information for collectors

There is no minimum number of items required to establish a collection for display at the State Library through PrivateCollectables.com. The content, historical significance, uniqueness, interest value of the collection and, above all, related research undertaken by the private collector will be assessed when deciding whether or not to accept it for display. PrivateCollectables.com will not enter into any correspondence with collectors if their request to display is turned down.

Each item for display must be properly documented and catalogued with labels describing their significance in the collection. Brochures, notes or articles may be supplied by collectors for distribution to members of the public attending the display. Supporting material for sale may be sold by our staff on your behalf at an agreed commission.

Where there is a commercial outcome benefitting the collector a commission of 10% of the sale price will be charged by PrivateCollectables.com. For example, if the collection is from an estate that you wish to sell you can use PrivateCollectables.com as a forum to promote the collection in the days leading up to disposal by way of auction or private sale or if artwork is sold during the display.

Once your collection has been accepted for public display you will be given the date (a Sunday) that you will need to call intothe State Library to set it up. Secure display cabinets will be provided to ensure that your collection is not harmed. PrivateCollectables.com will have a member of their staff manning the door at all times and, as the display is in the State Library, security is on hand in need. It is important that collectors insure their items being displayed, while it is highly unlikely that any adverse event will happen, PrivateCollections.com will not be responsible for any items that are on display that get get damaged or stolen.

Staff will assist collectors by taking payment for items (such as artwork) for sale while on display.

Collectors are aware that the public will be charged a $10 door fee to enter the exhibition. This money will be used to defray the costs of the Balson Holdings Family Trust - the organisation running PrivateCollectables.com.

All collectors displaying material will be given the opportunity to present their collection to the public at a lunch time talk during the week their material is displayed. Copies ofthe talk are to be supplied to PrivateCollectables.com for inclusion on the archive CD. Collectors or their nominated representative may also make themselves available to discuss their display with the public during the week their material is displayed.

Collectors agree to allow PrivateCollectables.com to photograph and document aspects of their collection for the archive CD which will be sold to the public once enough collections are featured on it. The collector will be recognised on the CD unless he or she wants to remain annonymous.

If you agree to the above conditions of entry please email us with a brief one hundred word outline of your collection. We will send you a check list of things to do if we feel that your collection would be of interest to the general public.
